Past Continuous — прошедшее продолженное (длительное, находился в процессе) время обозначает какое-либо действие, происходящее в прошлом в течение какого-либо времени или занимавшее продолжительное время

  1. В какой-то определенный момент, либо совершалось какое-либо другое действие, может прерывать первое, часто в Past Simple.
  2. Временная ситуация в прошлом и этот период озвучен. (in summer, yesterday, …)
  3. Несколько действий в прошлом, которые длились одновременно. (and, while)
